The purpose of this page is to describe how to setup an OlympusNet email account on a macOS device.
If you’ve earlier setup an account and need to make changes, go to Change macOS 15 Email

Setup macOS Email with IMAP

The instructions below are for an IMAP setup. We can walk you through the POP setup if preferred. The difference between IMAP and POP is explained at POP or IMAP?

Domain customers use username@your-domain.com wherever janedoe@olympus.net appears.

  1. Before getting started, have ready the email password agreed upon with OlympusNet staff.
  2. Open the Mail application.
Select Mail to the right of the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the window.
    Select Settings.
    Select Settings

  3. In the dialog box that opens, select Accounts.
  4. If the left-most panel shows an iCloud account and another previously set up email account named Olympus, read the section below titled Multiple Email Accounts, then resume at step 5.
    Multiple Email Accounts

  5. To create the new email account select + at the bottom of the window.
    Add Account

  6. Select Other Mail Account… then select Continue.
    Choose Provider

  7. Fill in your Name (Jane Doe) as you wish it to appear to others, your email address, janedoe@olympus.net, and your email password, then select Sign In.

  8. Apple Mail doesn’t yet know the correct names of the mail servers so it will display:
Unable to verify account name or password.
    1. The User Name: Automatic entry will correctly add your email address so long as the Email Address field above it is populated.
    2. Leave User Name: Automatic as it is.
    3. Fill in the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server fields with:
      mail.userservices.net for @olympus.net addresses; for example, janedoe@olympus.net.
mailc11.megamailservers.com for addresses in your domain, for example, janedoe@example.com.
Ignore the red-lettered message, and select Sign In.
      Server Names

  9. The account will verify that it can connect to the Incoming and Outgoing mail servers. If the same ‘Unable to verify account name or password’ error pops up, it’s likely there’s a typo in one of the fields, typically the password. Retype the password if you don’t find typos elsewhere and resubmit.
  10. After the verification succeeds, a popup opens showing that both Mail and Notes are enabled by default.
    Select Done.
    Mail and Notes

  11. In the Accounts Window, select the Server Settings tab, then disable the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server’s Automatically manage connection settings.
Change the Incoming Mail Server’s Port to 993.
Leave Automatically manage connection settings disabled for both Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers as you do not want the ports to be automatically managed.

    Port 993

    Reference Port Settings
    IMAP Incoming - 993
    IMAP Outgoing - 587
    POP Incoming - 995
    POP Outgoing - 587

  12. Verify that the email account you’ve just set up works correctly by sending an email from that account to that same account.
  13. If errors persist, follow the instructions at
    Change macOS 15 Email

Multiple Email Accounts

If you previously set up an OlympusNet account as shown in Step 4 above, you may want to change its Description to make that account easier to identify. Consider changing the Description to be janedoe Olympus instead of Olympus. Best to keep it short. The Description field is free-form so you can describe the inbound mail server however you wish.
Note that the Description field under the Account Information field describes the inbound mail server, the IMAP server.

Rename Olympus

Correct Setup Errors

If the verification fails, correct the error(s) by following the instructions at Change macOS 15 Email

Archive Significant Email to Local On My Mac Mailboxes

We urge you to archive significant email to your laptop or desktop computer in local On My Mac mailboxes so that those emails are under your control and where you can back them up locally. Think of On My Mac mailboxes as storage bins for email, not as conventional email accounts.

IMAP mail is synchronized between the server and IMAP mailboxes. If the mail is deleted on the server or any mailbox, it is deleted from all of your IMAP mailboxes.
The following image shows four ON My Mac mailboxes. Trash and Junk were set up automatically. Family Mail and Tax Records were set up by the user.

Email Privacy Protection

Consider enabling Email Privacy Protection which is described by How to Enable Mail Privacy Protection.

About Hide My Email with an iCloud+ plan

You can use an Apple-provided random email address to shelter your OlympusNet email address from spammers. Apple keeps track of the sites you’ve set up with those random email addresses making the management of these addresses simple.
See Set up and use Hide My Email in iCloud+ on all your devices.
