The purpose of this page is to describe how to set up an OlympusNet email account on a macOS device.
If you’ve earlier set up an account and run into problems or need to make changes to an existing account, go to Change macOS 13-14 Email Settings .

The instructions below are for a POP setup. We prefer POP for devices suitable for archiving email such as laptops and desktops, IMAP for portable devices with smaller screens. The reasons for that preference are described in POP or IMAP?
The article describes the difference in how email behaves between laptops and iPads/iPhones.

Domain customers use username@your-domain.com wherever janedoe@olympus.net appears.

  1. Before getting started, have ready the email password agreed upon with OlympusNet staff.
  2. If this is a first-time setup of email on the macOS device, open the Mail icon in the Dock, which may display Choose a Mail account provider, then skip to step 6.
  3. If the dialog box does not open automatically, select the Mail menu beside the apple icon in the upper-left corner of the monitor, then select Settings.
    Select Settings
  4. In the dialog box that opens, select Accounts.
  5. In the left navigation panel, select + at the bottom to add an email account.
    Add Account

  6. Select Other Mail Account… then select Continue.
    Choose Provider

  7. Fill in your Name (Jane Doe) as you wish it to appear to others, your Email Address, janedoe@olympus.net, and your email Password, then select Sign In.

  8. Apple Mail doesn’t yet know the correct names of the mail servers so it will display:
Unable to verify account name or password.
See the POP/IMAP document linked at the top if needed.
Fill in the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server fields with:
    mail.userservices.net for @olympus.net addresses; for example, janedoe@olympus.net.
mailc11.megamailservers.com for addresses in your domain, for example, sally@example.com.
Ignore the red-lettered message, and select Sign In again.
    Server Names

  9. The account will verify that it can connect to the Incoming and Outgoing mail servers. If a verification error pops up, it’s likely because there’s a typo in one of the fields, typically the password. Retype the password if you don’t find typos elsewhere.
  10. If the verification succeeds, send a test email from this account to this account.

Correct Setup Errors

If the verification fails, correct the error(s) by following the instructions at Change macOS 13-14 Email Settings,
then return to set up Junk Filtering and, optionally, Email Privacy Protection.

Enable Email Privacy Protection

We suggest that you consider enabling Email Privacy Protection, How to Enable Mail Privacy Protection on macOS Monterey.

  1. To enable Privacy Protection, in Mail/Preferences/Privacy, enable Protect Mail Activity as follows:
    Email Privacy Protection

About Hide My Email with an iCloud+ plan

  1. You can use an Apple-provided random email address to shelter your OlympusNet email address from spammers. Apple keeps track of the sites you’ve set up with those random email addresses making the management of these addresses simple.
See Set up and use Hide My Email in iCloud+ on all your devices.
