The purpose of this page is to describe how to change an existing OlympusNet email account on a macOS device.

To setup a new OlympusNet email account see Setup macOS 26 Email

  1. Open the Mail application. Select the Mail menu to the right of the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the monitor, then select Settings.

    Select Settings

  2. The window that opens is titled Accounts and the Account Information tab is selected by default.

    Account Information

  3. Select the account you want to work on in the margin (called Olympus in the screenshot) then select the Server Settings tab to the right. Change the settings as needed to match those in the following image, or retype the password in the top and bottom half of the window (for Incoming and Outgong mail servers), if it is a password change.

    Server Settings

Note that Automatically manage connection settings is disabled for both Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers.
It’s preferable to leave this setting disabled to reveal the Port settings and leave them revealed.

Reference Port Settings
IMAP Incoming - 993
IMAP Outgoing - 587
POP Incoming - 995
POP Outgoing - 587

4. After changing settings, select the Save button. The account will verify the settings. If there are errors, double check the spelling in the visible entries. Retype the password in both the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server sections. Select Save again.
5. If there were no errors, confirm that the changes were successful by quitting, then restarting Mail.
6. If there were errors sending email, select the up-and-down facing arrows at the end of the Account line under the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

Select Arrows

In the window that opens, select Edit SMTP Server List. This window might reveal conflicts with other email accounts. OlympusNet support can help identify those conflicts. Select your Olympus account in the rectangle at the top, then check the details below under Server Settings. They should mirror the settings shown below. If the settings are the same, try retyping the password.

Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server Conflicts

If multiple email accounts have been set up, multiple IMAP servers might share an SMTP server. Looking at the rectangle in the screenshot above, each email account under Description should have its own server under the Server Name column.

Use the Connection Doctor to view the status of the IMAP and SMTP server

In the dropdown menus displayed to the right of the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen starting with Mail > File > Edit … select Window, and from the menu select Connection Doctor to identify the status of your incoming and outgoing IMAP and SMTP connections.

Archive Significant Email to Local On My Mac Mailboxes

We recommend archiving significant email to your laptop or desktop computer in On My Mac mailboxes so that they are under your control and where you can back them up locally. This is particularly important for IMAP mail because IMAP mail is synchronized between the server and IMAP mailboxes. If mail is deleted from an account on the server, it is deleted from all IMAP mailboxes on all devices.
