Change iOS 18 Email Settings

The purpose of this page is to describe how to change the settings on an iOS 18 device previously set up with OlympusNet email using Setup iOS 18 Email.

Use these instructions if a password has been changed, or if there were errors during the setup of the device. The most common cause of errors are typos in the email address, host name, or email password. These instructions will help you correct those errors.

The instructions below are for iPhones and iPads using IMAP.

  1. Select the Settings icon in the Home screen, then select Apps.

  2. From the options, select Mail.
    Select Mail

  3. Select Mail Accounts.

  4. Select your OlympusNet account (may be called Olympus).
    Select Olympus

  5. Select Account Settings. Notice the option to delete the account appears below Account Settings, in case that is needed in the future.
    Select Account Settings

  6. Scroll down to the Incoming Mail Server. If you’ve changed the email password with OlympusNet, remove the dots in the password field and type in the new Password.

If there were errors during set up, double-check that there are no typos in the Host Name (the screenshot shows the accurate Host Name for an olympus.net account) and no typos in your full email address. Retype the Password, if there were no typos in the other fields.

Select SMTP when finished, to reach the area to type in the change for the Outgoing password, or other fields if correction is needed.
    Select SMTP

  7. In the dialog box titled SMTP, under Primary Server select mail.userservices.net.
    SMTP

  8. In the dialog box titled mail.userservices.net, check that the Host Name and User Name contain no typos. If none are apparent, retype the password then select Done in the upper right. The device will verify the settings.
Important: the email address and password are not optional, even if the word Optional appears in a field. Enter the same data in all three fields as before in the Incoming server settings. The screenshot shows additional settings that are accurate.

  9. Use SSL should be enabled (green).
  10. Authentication should show the word Password beside it. If it doesn’t, select the arrow and choose Password from the list of options.
  11. The Server Port should be 587.
  12. Select Done in the upper-right corner when finished.
  13. The device will verify the settings with the mail servers. Select Save if the dialog box appears.
    Save

  14. Return to the home screen and go to the Mail application. Send a test email from the account just set up to the same account to verify that the account can both send and receive email.

Advanced

Once the account is set up you may want to check how deleted email is handled, and how long it is saved on the device, or look for these options later if there is an issue.

Follow steps 1 - 6 above. Then select Advanced on the Account Settings dialog box.

This screenshot focuses on the options for deleted email, the most frequent question from customers. The typical setup for deleted email is highlighted in red in the screenshot. The section labeled Incoming Settings show accurate settings. However, the iOS devices set up the Incoming details correctly automatically. It is rare that one needs to adjust them. Proceed to next screenshot to adjust how long deleted email should stay on the OlympusNet Servers before they are removed.
Deleted

If the device is set to Never in the Remove field, it’s best to set a limit on it. Select Never, then for example, After one month.
