Block Spam Using the macOS Junk Filter

The purpose of this document is to explain how to use the macOS Junk Filter to manage spam. It is a preliminary document.

OlympusNet email servers run spam filters to quarantine suspected Spam into the Spam folder on the server before the email downloads to desktops, laptops, tablets and phones.

Some spam will break through that filtering on the server. When marked as Junk (x) that mail as Junk, macOS learns what you consider spam thus improving the quality of your computer’s filtering. It takes multiple emails from the same sender to teach the filter.

If legitimate email goes to the Junk folder, marking it as Not Junk also teaches the filter. Deleting spam will not teach the spam filter. It must be marked as Junk.

Those who have set up their laptop or desktop email with IMAP will enjoy that spam filtering on their tablets and phones while their laptop or desktop is running.
